Arrival information
The holiday resort of Bad Gastein Böckstein – in the heart of the Austrian Alps – can be reached quickly and safely by car at any time of the year.
Approach from the north
You will find us 90 km south of Salzburg, A10 Tauernautobahn, motorway exit Knoten Pongau, Exit 47, then continue on the main road towards Gastein/Zell am See until you reach the well signposted Gasteinertal junction. Still 20 km, 20 minutes. Böckstein is the highest situated and southernmost village in the Gasteinertal, at the border to Carinthia, just straight on, through Bad Gastein until you find our Residenz Gruber on the right 400 m after the sign Böckstein at the junction of the Südtirolerstrasse.
Approach from the south
If you are coming from the south, take the motorway exit Spittal/Lienz/Großglockner, if you are coming from the south-west, drive via Lienz and the Iselsberg towards Mölltal. Your destination is the Tauernschleuse in Mallnitz, for navigation systems please deactivate the option “avoid ferries”.
By car train through the Hohe Tauern in a few minutes
In Mallnitz-Obervellach you take the train by car and cross the Alpenhaut massif comfortably in 11 minutes. The car trains in Mallnitz run every hour, please note that you have to be at the loading station by .45 at the latest.
Loading is very easy, you drive past the checkout counter, buy the ticket and then travel directly to the train. Please get off here and take a seat in the passenger car. In Böckstein you then leave the train, the other passengers get on again, and 3 minutes later you have already reached your destination on the left at the turn-off into Südtiroler Strasse. We wish you a pleasant journey!
Winter tyres compulsory
Please note that in Austria winter tyres are compulsory in winter and in rare cases heavy snowfall can lead to the imposition of a snow chain obligation. In this case please contact us by telephone and we will be happy to help you. Usually, however, the journey is without obstacles.
All further information on train transfers with the Tauernbahn can be found directly on the ÖBB website.
